How Dream Cracked the YouTube Algorithm Behind a Mask

Let's dive into the amazing world of Dream, the Youtube faceless maestro, and how he became a viral sensation without showing his face.

His lessons can be applied to YouTube, entrepreneurship, and life in general.

“It’s not necessarily that anyone could be Dream. But anyone could be like Dream, anyone could do what I did.

I went to 30 million subscribers on YouTube, I started with a crappy laptop, and I didn’t show my face” - Dream

Dream: A Visionary in Every Sense

With an awe-inspiring three billion total views and a staggering 31 million subscribers, Dream has not only outgrown the Minecraft label but has redefined the genre itself.

His success story is not just about gaming; it's a testament to belief, innovation, and the power of turning dreams into reality.

4 Lessons from Dream’s Viral Growth

  • Be A Purple Cow: In other words, be different. In a world where everyone is moving in one direction like zombies, the best way to stand out is to take the road less traveled. Dream did this by creating an entirely new Minecraft experience for viewers and that resonated well with the audience. As a developer himself, he was able to flip the switch in more ways than one. This is because people are used to seeing the same thing over and over again, especially in the world of Minecraft streaming. So let your content speak volumes.

  • Master the Art of Virality: Dream's rise is a result of turning organic moments into strategic moves. He emphasizes that the best marketing doesn't feel like marketing, and seizing the right moments naturally grows your brand. The Dream SMP, a shared Minecraft server, became an internet phenomenon with rich storylines and captivating drama.

  • Have A Mystery Box: One smart trick that worked for Dream is having a mystery box plan in place, even though it wasn’t intentional. The use of a mask created a sort of mystery around his brand that pushed his content even further. Although Dream's decision to keep his face hidden wasn't premeditated, it became a strategic move. Consider the impact of your personal brand – sometimes, less is more.

  • Build a bridge: A lot of creators that do not make it past their viral phase are often those that do not leverage their online presence to reflect in the real world and this served as the number 4 reason why we all know how Dream looks now. He wanted to build a bridge with people in the real world and use his online presence to build a brand off his online persona, and you can already see the results from this bold move.

A Roadmap To Success

Dream's journey to success might not have been strategically laid out, but a lot of lessons can be taken from it, and it doesn’t even matter the kind of YouTube page or channel that you are promoting.

Whether you're a creator, gamer, or business person, Dream's blueprint holds valuable lessons. His YouTube channel has seen a massive drop in views after the face reveal, but that was due to not publishing more and spending time on other businesses.

🤖 AI Spotlight

ChatGPT Vs Bard: Who Wins in Content Writing?

Neil Patel runs a test asking ChatGPT and Bard to create 1000 articles to see which one plagiarizes the most and which one people enjoy reading better.

Out of the 1000 articles, It turns out:

81.4% of ChatGPT articles were unique, and 18.6% were plagiarized.

85.1% of Bard articles were unique, and 14.9% were plagiarized.

Out of 249 responses from the blind survey:

61 people preferred articles written by ChatGPT

188 preferred articles written by Bard

Google launches Gemini, added it to Bard and Pixel 8 Pro

Google has announced the launch of Gemini, the most capable and general model they’ve ever built. It is expected to be a key rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4, which is currently the most advanced language model publicly available in the world.

Bard is now powered by Gemini Pro, which means it will get better at generating realistic and diverse content, such as images, code, and summaries.

Pixel 8 Pro also became the first smartphone to be powered by Gemini Nano, which is the mobile version of Gemini. Expect to see features like Summarize in Recorder and Smart Reply in Gboard, and more.

Meta launches a new AI-powered image generator

In response to Google’s Gemini, Meta rolled out Imagine by Meta on the web. It’s similar to DALL-E and Midjourney and is powered by Meta’s Emu image generation model, which creates high-res images from prompts.

You can use it for free for now if you’re in the U.S. An invincible watermark is said to be added to images generated by the AI, which should increase transparency.

In other news, for GPT builders, OpenAI has delayed the GPT store till next year.
